According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, 99.5% of firms in the region are small and medium businesses (SMBs), which are responsible for 60% of formal productive employment.1 There are 93 million SMBs in Latin America and the Caribbean, 57% of which are informal and 70% of which are independent.2
